Changes to Our "Ask a Librarian" Chat Reference Service

Our "Ask a Librarian" chat reference service remains available from 12-4pm Monday to Friday. If you’ve used this service in the past though, you might notice that we’ve changed the chat interface.

Meebo, the software that we had been using for our chat reference service for many years, was discontinued this summer. Soon we’ll be selecting a new chat software for continuing our IM reference service.

In the meantime, we are currently providing our chat reference service using software called LibraryH3lp, as well as continuing to provide chat service through Skype. LibraryH3lp looks and behaves similarly to Meebo – it can be embedded on our Ask a Librarian and other pages and doesn’t require any apps, plugins, or for you to sign up for an account. It also has some useful features that were not available via Meebo, including an option to email yourself the chat conversation.
