Construction to Start Soon on the James and Elise Devitt Study Room

It will be the largest and most transformative renovation since the Dana Porter Library’s main-floor renovation in 2008. Thanks to a $100,000 gift from Elise Devitt, the Dana Porter Library’s 6th floor will be renovated this fall and will include the creation of a new group study room called the James and Elise Devitt Study Room.

The renovation will reflect recommendations from a recent assessment of the Library that will set the standard for changes to additional floors in the future. The rendering below shows the plan for the outside of the James and Elise Devitt Study Room. It will be located in the area shown in the middle picture above.

Elise Devitt, now retired, is a Waterloo grad and was also a long-time staff member at the University.

Construction is anticipated to begin on September 10. See the renovation’s photo gallery for current pictures of the 6th floor.
