Doors Open Waterloo Region celebrates its 10th anniversary this year with 37 participating sites and activities. To be held on Saturday, September 15, this year’s events include a self-guided heritage walking tour of the Westmount neighbourhood. The tour was created by the Library’s Head of Special Collections, Susan Saunders Mavor, based on her recent book Westmount: The Tie that Binds the Twin Cities.

A Westmount Self-Guided Heritage Walking Tour
10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Departure point: Sun Life Financial. The full-colour self-guided tour will be available free of charge at the “Westmount” table in the Sun Life lobby.
Created by Talmon Henry Rieder and inspired by the work of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the Westmount neighbourhood celebrates 100 years of history in 2012. This self-guided tour provides an introduction to Westmount’s
first fifty years, highlighting some of the neighbourhood’s earliest and finest houses. It includes Waterloo and Kitchener homes exemplifying Talmon Rieder’s vision.
