Open Access Week is a global event to raise awareness about Open Access, the movement toward making scholarly literature available online free of charge. This year Open Access Week runs from October 22-28. To celebrate, the Library is planning a range of activities, including a panel on Open Access journals featuring members of uWaterloo's and Laurier's academic community, a Data Management Day, and displays and giveaways in our locations. The recent focus on big data and its potential applications has proven that data management, far from being boring or just nice-to-have, is becoming wildly relevant and useful in everyday life. Now with research agencies like SSHRC and CIHR requiring it as part of their funding protocols, there are a lot of reasons for researchers to take notice of how data management can propel innovation and their own research. The Library recently joined other Ontario university libraries in a licensing agreement to pilot a collection that provides access to all "front-list" titles from 10 of the most highly-regarded university presses.
