In 1861 Louis P. Breithaupt moved his family from Buffalo to Berlin, Ontario, the first step on a path that led to becoming the town’s foremost family in business, social, religious and political life. Donations of the Breithaupt family papers to the University of Waterloo Library between 1987 and 2005 have provided rich evidence of the process and extent of cultural change in an area unique in Canada, and through which the immigrant experience in Canada can be elucidated. The reuniting of these family papers that now span more than 100 years in the history of one family has opened new avenues for looking at our community’s past.
The Library and the Polar Data Catalogue are co-hosting Data Management Day, a day to raise awareness and explore the issues surrounding the discovery, access, and preservation of research data.
The day will start with a keynote address by Dr. Sallie Ann Keller, VP Academic & Provost, and continue with presentations to highlight data management from the perspectives of the funding agency, researcher, digital curation & data preservation. Speakers will include Dr. Chad Gaffield, President of the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council, Dr. Warwick F. Vincent, Professor of Biology and Canada Research Chair in Aquatic Ecosystem Studies at Université Laval, and Alan Darnell, Director, Scholars Portal Services Ontario Council of University Libraries.
Register soon for this event and discover how data management can benefit your research.
