The Library welcomes Patrick Miller to the Dana Porter Library's Information Services and Resources Department (ISR).
Here for an 8-month co-op work term as part of his studies in Western's Library and Information Science program, Patrick will be assisting with a wide range of service-related projects during his time here, beginning with a project to zone study areas in the Dana Porter Library. Patrick will also be joining the Library's Instructional Committee and Outreach Committee and will spend a large portion of his time assisting students with their research questions at the Dana Porter Library's research help desk.

"I was drawn to librarianship because I have passion for discovery and information sharing," Patrick says. "The most important suggestion that I can provide to new students is that the Reference librarian is there to help try and solve any and all problems or questions. Students should not feel they their question is dumb or a waste of the librarian's time. We’re here to help."
Patrick is from the Waterloo area and has an honours degree from Wilfrid Laurier University where he majored in History with a minor in German Language. In addition to his university studies, he has also successfully completed the Deutsche Sprachdiplom I (German Language Diploma I).
Patrick is enjoying his time at the Library so far and especially appreciates his new colleagues.
"Having visited Dana Porter in my undergrad I was familiar with the library layout and what it had to offer," he says. "The biggest impact on me was finally meeting the staff that keep Dana Porter running. I have found them all to be extremely inviting and understanding with any and all questions that I have about how to do this and that within the library. They are one of the main reasons why I look forward to going to work."
