Introducing Sarah Martin

The Library welcomes Sarah Martin as Circulation's new Lending Supervisor, Circulation Desk Training. Sarah is a familiar face on the Library's Circulation desk. In this new role, she supervises the full-time evening and weekend supervisors, as well as circulation desk casual staff.

"I make sure that the Circulation desks are staffed by students who are well-trained and prepared to offer excellent customer service," says Sarah. "This includes interviewing and hiring the best candidates. I’ve recently been involved in a lot of hiring for contract positions within Circulation."

Sarah meets regularly with the evening and weekend supervisors to discuss new ideas and she plays a key role in the training of new circulation staff. She sits on the Circulation Training Committee and was also recently a part of the Dana Porter Library's 6th Floor Planning Committee.

Sarah started at the Library in 2004 as a casual staff member and has held a variety of supervisory positions. Most recently, she was the Weekend Supervisor and Technical Support at the Dana Porter Library.

Sarah received her BA in Honours Anthropology from Waterloo, a degree that she finds helps in her library work.

"I found that taking anthropology courses makes you more aware of your culture, and of others around you," she says. "I think this helps with any customer service-based job! It’s also interesting to look at the library as a culture and see how our library relates to others."

Outside of work, Sarah enjoys watching movies, cooking, reading, and spending time outdoors.
