It is a pleasure to introduce Alexandra Dobre, the Library's newest Cataloguing Co-op Student. In this position, Alexandra revises and updates bibliographic, holding, and authority records in the Library’s catalogue and converts records to meet the new "Resource Description and Access" cataloguing rules and practices.

Alexandra arrives at the Library from Western where she is currently completing her Master of Library and Information Science degree. Before this, she completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree here at Waterloo with a major in Legal Studies and a minor in Social Developmental Studies.
“This library is great,” Alexandra exclaims. “I spent many years studying in it, especially on the fifth floor! Because of my major in Legal Studies, the fifth floor was like my other home.”
During her undergrad years, Alexandra worked part-time for Family and Children’s Services of the Waterloo Region where she held the position of a Document Imaging Clerk in the Information and Technology Department – an experience that she finds has benefitted her cataloguing training and work.
In addition to cataloguing, Alexandra is interested in other areas of librarianship such as collection development, copyright law, and extended learning services. She will have the opportunity to work on the Dana Porter Library’s reference desk in the fall term where she will gain experience assisting students with their research questions.
“One thing I would tell students, faculty or others who are visiting the Library for the first time is that we are here to help you. Don’t hesitate and don’t be shy as there is no stupid question! The Library is here for you, so make the most out of it!”
Outside of work, Alexandra enjoys drawing and spending time with her dog, Kenni.
