Would you like to create a map for your course assignment or research project but don’t know where to start? This workshop will teach you the basics with the popular Esri ArcGIS Desktop 10.1 program. You will learn how to add GIS data, how to create simple maps, and where to find GIS data and resources.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

Work with Shapefiles and online basemaps
Create a map with proper symbols and text
Insert Map Elements
Save and Print your Map
Learn strategies for finding GIS data, resources and help
