Globe and Mail—Canada's Heritage from 1844

Imagine searching through several years of The Globe and Mail newspaper without leaving the comfort of your home or office. This is just one of the many benefits available through The Globe and Mail—Canada's Heritage from 1844, a new electronic resource offered by the Library and available to current students, faculty, and staff.

The Globe and Mail—Canada's Heritage from 1844 is a newspaper archive of The Globe and Mail from June 1844 to four years before the current date. Coverage includes all the stories, plus thousands of images, advertisements, classifieds, political cartoons, and birth and death notices from more than 1.4 million pages. This resource is valuable for many fields of study and research.

The digital archive was created by scanning the original records from microfilm masters to create high quality digital images of the original page format. Since scanning was done from microfilm, the resulting image is almost an exact replica of the original.

You may search for articles by keyword, phrase, or a Boolean search query. Search results are displayed as PDF images (photographs) of an entire newspaper page. Search results are also highlighted in yellow on the page image of the newspaper as it was originally published.

You may also browse by date, one year at a time. For keyword, phrase, or Boolean searching, the search engine will search up to five years at a time and will return results in groups of about 400.
