The Library offers PsycINFO, a web-based Journal Index and Abstracting service produced by the American Psychological Association (APA). It is the leading research tool for Psychology students, faculty, and staff. PsycINFO indexes journal articles, English-language book chapters, dissertations, reports, and other scholarly documents in the field of Psychology. Coverage is from 1887 to the present.
PsycINFO also indexes citations relevant to medicine, education, social work, law, criminology, and organizational behaviour. It covers literature from over 50 countries in more than 30 languages. PsycINFO is updated once a week and the journal coverage list is updated once a month. Almost all of the citations found on PsycINFO are from peer-reviewed journals.
PsycINFO is a CSA database published by the American Psychological Association. Features of this database include an advanced searching mode and the capability of displaying search histories to combine searches and view previous results. Records can be marked for export (print/email/save to diskette). There is also an advanced feature that allows users to set up search alerts. Users can save their search strategies and be notified via email when new literature appears on PsycINFO.
As of September 2003, PsycINFO indexes 1,891 journals. The list changes continuously as journals are added and discontinued throughout the year. The journal titles covered on PsycINFO are listed on its web site.
PsycINFO is available to currently registered students, faculty, and staff members. If you are on campus, you can link directly to PsycINFO.
If you are connecting from off-campus, then you must connect to the UW proxy service first.
