FAQ

Will the main floor be open during the renovations?

No. The main floor will be entirely closed to the public and staff during the renovations. This is a necessary closure to ensure that the project is completed by its firm deadline of fall term.

When will the main floor be closing?

The main floor will be closing in early May. It will remain closed until the fall when renovations are completed.

Will the rest of the library be open?

Yes, library staff anticipate keeping the rest of the library open during the renovations.

What services will be offered during the renovation, and where?

Services regularly available on the main floor will be accomodated elsewhere. See our services page for details.

Where will the temporary entrance be?

The temporary entrance will be located on the west side of the building, opposite Needles Hall.

Will the library be accessible for people with physical disabilities?

Yes, the temporary entrance will have a ramp and interior doors equipped for wheelchair access.

Will the Browsers Cafe be open?

Browsers will not be open or relocated during the renovations. The nearest coffee shop is the Tim Horton’s located in the lower level of the Modern Languages building.

What’s happening to the old furniture?

Some furniture will be used to replace older furniture in other public areas. Other furniture is being sent to the UW Central Stores for sale in the upcoming surplus sales.

How long will the main floor be closed?

The main floor will be closed for the entirety of the renovations, beginning at the start of May with a projected completion date of mid to late September.

Why are the study rooms unavailable?

The study rooms are needed to accommodate office space for main-floor staff during the renovations.
