The walkway around the Dana Porter Library was replaced during the summer of 2010. The renovation is now complete. Thanks to everyone for their patience during the construction.
October 15 - The main entrance was open in time for the start of the fall term. As you can tell from the fall photo below, things are back to normal again around the walkway.
September 1 - The walkway is starting to look complete and everyone is wondering "when will the main entrance be opening?" The answer is most likely in time for the fall term. The construction crew is putting the finishing touches on the walkway and will be installing the railings at the staircases and accessibility ramp shortly.
August 18 - A lot has happened since the last update. Cement has been poured for the staircases and the construction crew has started pouring and smoothing cement along the surface of the walkway. The accessibility ramp has also been built. Still left to do, the crew needs to complete the railings and finish landscaping around the staircases. It looks like things will be complete for the start of the fall term!
August 3 - The new railing is up! The construction crew has been busy installing the railing around the Library's walkway. Next comes the cement for the main staircase.
July 26 - The construction crew is still working on creating the cement foundation for the walkway's railing.
July 15 - The construction crew are setting cement into the frame for the new railing's foundation.
July 7 - The construction crew has recently started building the accessibility ramp, which is being relocated to the front entrance, and are starting to build the foundation for setting the new railing.
June 25 — The construction crew has started building the staircases at the main entrance and east-side of the library.

June 18 — Drilling has finished for now. The construction crew has finished removing the railing from around the walkway and continues to lay down waterproofing material to protect the library's lower level from leaks.
June 9 — Drilling continues, as the construction crew continues to remove the walkway's concrete base. Waterproofing material has been laid down to protect the library's lower level from leaks.
May 28 — The construction crew has started drilling, starting with stairs at the front entrance. Things are very loud inside the Library.
May 25 — The main entrance is now closed and will remain closed for the duration of the construction. Demolition has been postponed until the contractor receives an engineering report allowing heavy equipment to reach the site. In the meantime, the construction crew are expected to begin work on the west side of the building (across from Needles Hall).
May 19 — The demolition of the front & side stairs and the walkway will begin (and hopefully end) on the holiday Monday, May 24.
May 12 — Plant Operations are currently preparing for the renovation. The picture below shows the current walkway, facing north from the south-east corner. See our Flickr site for more pictures.
