6th Floor Renovation / James and Elise Devitt Study Room
The 6th floor renovation is the largest and most transformative renovation since the Dana Porter Library's main-floor renovation in 2008.
Using a recent gift of $100,000 from Elise Devitt, the 6th floor renovation includes:
Phase 1 - Now Complete!
- The James and Elise Devitt Study room, a workstation area with barstool seating, and low-shelving units for part of the floor. This initial phase of the renovation was completed in December 2012 and was recognized during the Grand Opening of the James and Elise Devitt Study Room
Phase 2 - Summer 2013
- A lounge area with carpeting and soft seating
- Study tables to facilitate two people working together
- New quiet study carrels to replace the current carrels situated around the circumference of the floor. These new carrels will include a number of wider, accessible carrels to provide comfortable study areas for students with disabilities

Elise Devitt, now retired, is a Waterloo grad and was a long-time staff member at the University.
See the project's news blog for current information and its photo gallery for plans and renderings.
