  2. Opening Day Scenario
    The committee discussed staffing and how many individuals would be required to offer adequate service.  It was agreed that 6 staff would be needed, with provisions for one additional shared workspace for casual staff, etc.  Michele walked us through the Opening Day Scenario document and the committee discussed furnishings, visions, and ideas and made a list of the equipment necessary on opening day.

    Open space with good sight lines.

    • secure return book bin

    Service Desk Area
    curved desk (circulation/reference) to house reserve readings and controlled access, holds, etc.  Staff need to be able to retrieve items and book trucks have to be able to get behind the desk.  The desk will have to be ergonomically correct.

    • 2 large tables (receiving) or counters - cupboards/wall mounted shelves or cabinets beneath table

    • 1 bar fridge
    • 1 microwave oven
    • kitchenette with double sink and counter space: storage for cups/plates

    • 1 low book section (AVERY)
    • 4 public computer workstations (up to 4 patron access)
    • 1 networked laser printer & release station, ITC Universal Interface & related software
    • filing cabinet - vertical filing material (4 drawer)
    • 2 consultation tables (seating for 6-8 people)
    • 6-8 chairs
    • 2 book sections for reference materials
    • 1 workstation pod
    Recommendation:  The microform collection remains at Porter.
