Cataloguing/Processing Computer Diskettes 1.0 Books with Accompanying Computer Diskettes 1.1 General Procedures 1.1.1 Books with accompanying diskettes for Porter or Davis stacks are normally left with the book. Porter GP and Ref material should, however, be treated on a case by case basis. If instructions are not clear on Mass slip as to how material should be handled, contact Sue Moskal for Government Publications material and H. Calogeridis for Reference material. 1.2 Processing Instructions 1.2.1 Make a duplicate copy of the diskette(s) at the time of cataloguing (give diskette(s) to Nancy to copy). Place duplicate diskette(s) in book, originals stay in Cataloguing. Additional copies of the diskette(s) can be supplied by Cataloguing if a request is received. 1.2.2 Place a copy of the diskette(s) in the book. If a pocket is not present in the book instruct Item Prep to add a plastic pocket to the back of the book. 1.2.3 The Cataloguer should instruct Item Prep to place a red sticky label on the pocket holding the diskette(s) reminding the user to check for viruses before using the accompanying diskette(s). 1.2.4 The Cataloguer should insstruct Item Prep to place a label next to the barcode label on the cover indicating the number of diskette(s) included (eg. 2 diskettes included). This label should be typed on spine label stock since this is extremely difficult to remove. 1.2.5 Locate items in regular stacks unless otherwise specified. 1.2.6 At time book is discharged, User Services staff should check for diskette(s) and initiate virus check Revised 97/06/09
