CNAPG Meeting - Wednesday - January 3, 2001

Subject - UW Library Web Usability Study.
  1. Office of Ethics Forms. Action - Amos Lakos.

  2. Prototyper - The library is in the process of creating a new position in the Systems Department that will encompass the prototyper skills and responsibilities. As CNAPG may need the services of such a person before that, we expressed interest that Chris Gray should be made part of the Usability Study group now in order to be able to proceed with the project. Action - Susan Routliffe.

  3. Project Schedule - actual testing is planned for the end of February and first week of March.

  4. Pre-testing - will contact Carolyn MacGregor from Systems Design Dept. who expressed interest in our project before. Action - Amos Lakos.

  5. Budget -
      • based on five prototype cycles with five persons and additional two faculty members to be tested in each cycle and focus groups.
      • Students - 5X5X$15.00 = $375.00
      • Faculty - 2X5X$15.00 = $150.00
      • Focus Groups - 10X2X$15.00 = $300.00
      • Refreshments for Focus Group = $30.00
      • Supplies ??? = ???
      • Audiotapes = ???
      • Total Budget (appr) = $855.00

  6. Focus Groups - to follow testing - still to decide how sessions - I budgeted above for two sessions of 10 persons each.

  7. Test area for prototypes on one of the Library servers. Action - Susan Routliffe.

  8. Test Location - needed a fairly closed private location with a workstation. In Porter we could use the ISR Room on the 2nd floor. Will also ask Susan Sykes and Carolyn Macgregor if there are any dedicated rooms for testing of this sort on campus. Action - Amos Lakos.

  9. Questionnaire - in preparation. Action - Michelle Laing and Annette Dandyk.

  10. Extra Equipment - audio tape recorder, audiotapes. It was decide against videotaping at this time. Tapes will be bought by Annette Dandyk. Amos will look at the possibility of using SnagIt with a microphone to record the tests.
