Community Needs Assessment Committee • Minutes

Thursday, November 20th, 2003
11:00-12:15am
Dana Porter Room 512A

Present: Shabiran Rahman (Chair), Jane Britton, Michele Laing, Dan Sich (recorder)
Regrets: Wish Leonard, Jamie Russell
Guests: Janet Wason

1. Approval of minutes from the November 13th meeting

The minutes were approved with minor corrections.

2. Business Arising

a. NVivo
Shabiran will try NVivo with a focus group. We will try to get the software shared on all machines.

b. Recorder
CNAC has still not yet heard from any volunteer to act as CNAC’s external recorder.

3. Questionnaire

Members of CNAC examined the combined survey questions and made further editorial suggestions, including:
• Using the 6 categories of disabilities used by the Office for Persons with Disabilities and the federal/provincial(?) government.
• Using check-boxes and radio buttons as appropriate (as opposed to using bullets).
Action: Janet will apply these editorial suggestions to the questionnaire. She’ll then take the draft to the Office for Persons with Disabilities to obtain further suggestions. Eventually, the form will be given to Val so that it may be presented in Web page format using Dreamweaver.

Shabiran reported on the pending UW-wide purchase of software for web survey results evaluation. Unfortunately, this software will not be made available in time for our January/February timeline. More than likely it will arrive in March/April. In the meantime, a homegrown/shareware software, developed by Glen Anderson in IST, is available. CNAC members agreed to go with what’s available and to stick to our timeline.

4. ORE form and other documentation

Janet agreed to be the “Principle Investigator” while CNAC members will be “Co-Investigators”.

CNAC members should review the form as currently filled-out. Shabiran will send an updated version of the form to CNAC members shortly.

5. UMD Survey

CNAC has received a project form from UMD on their “How did we do today?” survey. CNAC has requested that project documentation be sent for mounting on the CNAC Web site. The survey runs from November 1-28.

6. Lunch

CNAC members approved of a proposed before-the-holidays lunch.
Action: Dan will co-ordinate.

Next Meeting: Thursday, December 4th, 2003, 11:00-12:00 Dana Porter Rm. 512A.
