1. Approval of minutes from the February 20th meeting

The minutes of the February 20th meeting will be discussed at the next CNAC meeting.


2. Discussion of the March 4th meeting with ISMC

CNAC decided that they would be willing to serve as a resource to whomever takes on the responsibility of conducting an assessment of Reference Service. If was felt that individuals in the group could volunteer to be part of this assessment group, but not as representatives of CNAC.

Anne provided pertinent excerpts from “Assessing Service Quality” by Hernon & Altman, as well as segments from the online ARL Lyceum course on “Measuring Library Service Quality”. Members will read this material to help them better understand assessment methodologies, particularly the strengths and weaknesses of each approach.

It was decided that the group would prepare a statement of possible approaches to assessing some of the issues raised in the ISMC document (used in preparation for their March 4th meeting with CNAC, documented in the February 25th ISMC meeting minutes). These would be suggested methodologies for ISMC consideration and not a re-write of the above-mentioned document. This statement would be prepared out of discussions at the next CNAC meeting.


3. New Business

a) LibQual Results
Interest was shown in the results from the 2001 LibQual Study. Shabiran offered to contact Susan Routliffe regarding their whereabouts.

b) Purchase of Assessment Materials
Shabiran will submit a request for the purchase of six copies of the book “Assessing Service Quality: Satisfying the Expectations of Library Customers”.
