  5. OMG Report (Richard Pinnell)

Richard reported the new subject categories on the TDR website have been examined and will be left as is for now. Revisions can be made in the future if problems occur.

Richard had distributed the test site url for the TDR registration page and the DDI project and asked the group to examine it prior to the meeting (http://tdr.uoguelph.ca/DATA?WWWDOCS/testomg.html).

    TDR Registration Page:

Richard noted changes still need to be made but February 18, 2002 is the target date to go live with the logon page. The group made the following recommendations for improvement:

    • the note on the page for first time users to register needs to be made more prominent
    • the text on the page should be separated by bulleting or numbering
    • a clear statement needs to be made that community members and alumni are not included as members of the TDR community
    • the page should be consistent with the e-journals page
    • reference to user notification of changes and updates should be removed (this will not be functional until the next enhancement)

Richard will take the suggestions back to Michele and he will also check when the next enhancement will occur.

    DDI Project (Sun Exposure Survey):

The projected date for completion of the DDI project is May 1, 2002. Several changes still need to be made and links fixed. The documents will be converted to pdf files. Richard asked Susan and Shabiran to send feedback to him.

    TDR Service Agreement:

Richard reported the Steering Committee and OMG agree that TDR has moved past the development phase and is now in production mode of operation. As a result, the service agreement will be rolled into the systems agreement. The Steering Committee is currently reviewing the first draft of the systems agreement.

  6. SWORDC Report (Shabiran):

Shabiran reported 3 people are currently working on projects. Two of the datasets being used are “National Population & Health Survey” and “Children & Youth Survey” She also noted Bo Wandschneider has redesigned the SWORDC website and a co-op student from Sociology is now working with Pat Newcombe-Welch. Shabiran also commented that the data sets on the site link to the TDR data which might not have the depth of information that would be available through SWORDC. She will follow-up on this.

This item was deferred to the next meeting.

Next meeting: February 27, 2002; EDS Room, 5 th Floor; 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
