MINUTES OF THE MEETING JANUARY 16, 2002

  1. Minutes of the Meeting of December 5, 2001: Accepted.
  1. Business Arising:

Item 5, ICPSR Direct: Richard reported the remote access issue has been resolved. He also noted he has not yet received any requests. Shabiran reported she has made the Sociology faculty aware of the service and she will issue another reminder at the faculty meeting next week. She has also edited the ICPSR Direct article for Data Links and she will send it to Richard for examination. There was further discussion about the web page and it was suggested a summary or help guide would be useful.

Item 9, UW Library Staff Web Page for EDS: Susan noted the link to CANSIM needs to be changed on the EDS web page. Action: Susan will follow up.

Item 10, Beyond 20/20 Notification: Richard noted he will send out the notification about downloading Beyond 20/20 along with notification about CANSIM II. Action: Susan will send Richard the details that need to be included in the notice.

There was no additional agenda for today’s meeting.

  1. TDR/OMG Report (Richard)

This item was deferred. OMG did not meet.

  1. EDS Terms of Reference: Revision

The terms of reference for the Electronic Data Service Group were examined. It was agreed the document no longer reflects the group’s mission and goals and should be completely re-written. The group agreed that because it is so inaccurate, it should be removed from the staff web page. It was suggested the web pages of other Library committees should be examined for stylistic format and components. Action: time permitting, Shabiran and Susan will look at some existing sites before the next meeting.

The group recognized that many of the issues discussed at the EDS meetings would not be relevant for Jack nor would they require his attendance on a regular basis. Action: Susan will contact Jack to ask what level of involvement he would like to maintain.
