Minutes of Meeting, March 1, 2000 Present: Cooper, Jack Pinnell, Richard McTaggart, Judy (Recorder) Rahman, Shabiran Moskal, Susan (Facilitator) Guest: Susan Routliffe 1. Minutes of Previous Meeting, February 16, 2000: Accepted. 2. Business Arising: TDR Service Agreement Cost - Richard reported this is not yet ready. TDR Newsletter - Susan noted this is ready for distribution. 3. TDR Statistics (Susan Routliffe) Susan asked if use statistics are available for the TDR service. She noted it would be useful to have evidence of both need and use of the service, as well as projections for growth. Susan M. noted that manual statistics are kept only for the number of consultations - nothing in greater detail. Richard noted the distribution list for the TDR newsletter would provide a profile of Departments using the service and who is interested; however, it does not identify level of use by Department. A discussion on use statistics available on the web followed. It is not clear the level of detail that can be provided. Jack Cooper will download the file into excel and sort by Department. He stated iit should be possible to sort the statistics by a number of variables, including location. He will consult with Roger Watt to determine the program best suited for this function. Susan R. noted it is important to have a breakdown by institution in order to compare usage by UW to that of Guelph and Laurier. It would also be helpful to have an indication by student use if possible. Shabiran suggested consulting with Bo and Amos to determine how they collect and use statistics. Richard will consult with Mark Haslett about having the topic of a statistical collection method added as an agenda item at the next UL meeting. It was suggested that faculty members who use the service heavily might be approached to write a letter indicating the significance of the service to their Department and the University. Susan R. will consult with Mark Haslett to see if testamonials might be of value as a means of demonstrating support for the need of this service. Susan M. also noted that PHD and Master theses typically require the use of data sets and it would be useful to obtain these lists from faculties. It was also recommended that liaison librarians include questions relating to data use in their interviews with faculty members. Susan M. will contact IRMC about the possibility of having this question added to the interview form. Susan R. will be added to the EDS alias and will receive copies of the minutes. Next Meeting: Wed., March 16, 200; Porter 224A; 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
