Minutes of the Meeting of August 3, 1994 The minutes of the meeting of August 3, 1994 were approved with changes. 2. Business Arising 4. CANSIM/EPAS Sue Moskal stated that the CANSIM data will be purchased with money from her Government Publication fund. She also stated that Bill Graham has been in contact with Chris Leowski at EPAS to inform him to establish official contact for us. Chris Leowski has been on LIBRARY since August 8, 1994, so some activity has taken place. Chuck has not been notified of the missing utilities. Sue Moskal also reported that Professor Walker of the History Department would like to be able to use CANSIM data for historical research on immigration. She feels this is the typical type of request we will be receiving. 5. Census Data Albert Kemp reported that the Census data on Watserv2 has now been transferred to LIBRARY and has been removed from Watserv2. The Census data on EISLIB2 has also been transferred to LIBRARY, but has not been deleted from EISLIB2. Albert Kemp met today (August 10) with Carol Vogt and Jan Willwerth to discuss transferring the Census data Jan has been storing. According to Jan, all the data has been stored on 2 accounts, 1 on DCS1 and 1 on WATARTS. She is still trying to organize the data on WATARTS and will let Albert know when it is ready to transfer. She gave him access to her account on DCS1 and said he could begin transferring the Census data. She also made him aware that the DSC1 account contains Cycle 7 of the GSS data. Albert has successfully transferred Cycle 7 of the GSS data but was unable to locate any Census data. He has since notified Jan by E-mail that he could not locate the Census data. He is waiting for her to reply. Albert Kemp also confirmed that everything in Census on LIBRARY is being backed up. 6. GSS Data Albert contacted John Hirdes regarding transferring the GSS data from Healthy to LIBRARY. John has agreed to help with the transfer, however he is away until September 1, 1994. If we require the data before September 1, 1994, Jan Willwerth will request tapes be mounted and cycles restored on DCS1. We can then FTP them to LIBRARY. Cycles 1-6 are on tape, cycle 7 is on DCS1 and cycle 8 has not yet been released. The data could be on LIBRARY as early as the end of this week. Shabirin Rahman has contacted John Hirdes and asked that he please look at how the gopher for GSS has been set up. 10. Materials in 222 (Data Resources Centre Holdings) Maureen Kama is working her way through the material in Room 222. She is spending approximately 3-4 hours per day on this task.
