Minutes of the meeting of September 7, 1994 The minutes of the meeting of September 7, 1994 were accepted with the following corrections: No.4 CANSIM Paragraph 3 should read 'Carol will speak to Doug Payne about using xhier versus a domain restricted telnet account on LIBRARY' Paragraph 5 under path should read 'several searches were tried using library accounts. The Task Group feels that xhier of the software to other machines on campus is the preferred method. The database should remain on LIBRARY with access through NFS' No. 8 Room 222 Paragraph 2 vidiocard should be spelled videocard 2. Business Arising There was no business arising from the meeting of September 7, 1994 3. Additional Agenda There was no additional agenda. 4. CANSIM Chris Leowski e-mailed Doug Morton today with some answers to questions that have been asked of him. He stated that he thinks that it will be okay for us to port the software to other UNIX platforms on campus and that if there is a charge for porting, it would be a reasonable amount. He also stated it was basically us to us how we provide access to the EPAS software, except distributing it beyond what's specified in the license agreement. The manuals are available in WP 5.2 for Windows version or MS Word Version 2.0a. and can be modified to reflect local setup. The only requirement is that we retain the copyright notice. 5. Census There was nothing to report regarding Census. 6. GSS Debbie Tytko reported that Cycle 8 of GSS is available. There was some question as to whether this data had been FTP'd to LIBRARY. To avoid missing this Cycle, Debbie will try to FTP it to EISLIB2. 7. UW-EDS Service Configuration Doug Morton and Sue Moskal have been asked to attend a P&PG meeting next week to discuss the Public Service Component of the University of Waterloo Electronic Data Services (UW-EDS). They will also stress the requirements of the EDS Office (Room 222). They will take this opportunity to update the members of P&PG on what has been accomplished to date by the Electronic Data Service Working Group. ie. CANSIM, GSS.
