Minutes of Previous Meeting: no corrections 2. Business Arising Item 8: Bruce Mcneil wants the opening moved back to Jan 1. item 2.2.7 from Nov. 23: the EDS computer: should we buy a Pentium even though it has problems, or should we buy a 486 instead. After some discussion it was agreed to purchase a 66 MHz 486. Item 7 from Nov. 23: Room 222: the things that are currently in boxes need to be put on the shelves. Who will do this? 3. Additional Agenda Items help with survey booking meeting room 4. CANSIM/EPAS Doug distributed a draft of a quick guide to CANSIM. The preliminary screen shows Department of Economics. We must ask how to change this. Everyone will read this, and send their comments to Doug. We also need this in electronic format. Doug has not heard back from Andrea, but Bill reported that her priorities are: must get GSS and VAW up and NFS mounted get CANSIM running get census up and NFS mounted 5. Census: All 17 tapes are here from U of T. DCS weekend operators will start transferring data from tapes to Library. Will need userid and disk space on Library. Albert will arrange this with Charles Woods. 6. GSS Cycle8: Albert will convert the WordPerfect file so Shabiran can produce the About file. 7. Opening Date: Will open January 3rd. What needs to be done? a) CANSIM: i) telnet access ii) mail return iii) Gopher and Web access iv) fix up manuals b) GSS and VAW i) need to be NFS mounted in correct spot ii) modify SAS and SPSS programs iii) test a sample of both SAS and SPSS c) Census i) needs to be structured and NFS mounted ii) modify SAS and SPSS programs iii) test a sample of both SAS and SPSS d) Pull EDS into appropriate spot on Gopher 8. Survey help: Shabiran asked for volunteers to assist with data manipulation for survey. No volunteers were forthcoming. 9. Booking of Meeting Room: Shabiran has booked the room through until the end of May.
