Minutes of Previous Meeting - Approved. 2. Business Arising - * WebSIM (Web to CANSIM interface) was again demonstrated. Basically ready for public use; Lynx support and mailing option have yet to be incorporated. R. Pinnell will handle announcements to uw.library and uw.general newsgroups. D. Morton will announce to staff and inform Chris Redmond (Gazette). 3. Additional Agenda - 7. Other data resources 8. Cataloguing questions from B. Graf 9. ICPSR 4. CANSIM/EPAS - Prior to the Christmas holiday, B. Oldfield wrote UNIX scripts to test secure telnet access to CANSIM. Andrea Chappell, of DCS, will be contacted via email. The possibility of offering CANSIM access from public workstations must also be explored. Patrons may require the ability to download search data to floppies. Charles Woods is working on a schedule for regular weekly updates to the CANSIM database. 5. Census/GSS - S. Moskal and A. Kemp are continuing to transfer various record layout and codebook files from U of T's gopher. They hope to have some of this data available via the Library gopher by next week. C. Vogt reports that anyone on a remote system, who wishes to access the census data on Library, must also NFS mount the data on their system. Such a request should be handled by the system administrator. It is not enough that the data is NFS mounted on Library. This fact will be noted in the Library gopher for all users. 6. User Interface - To be announced.... 7. Other Data Resources - S. Moskal presented information from the Dept. of Natural Resources on an electronic database of petrolium related information. This data is available only by fax at this time. 8. Cataloguing Questions - Betty Graf, head of Cataloguing, asked if we wanted to change all the location codes for our materials. Presently, "DRC" is being used. However, most location codes on the system will be changed in April, 1995, which would be a good time to change "DRC" if we so choose. UW-EDS decided that we would keep "DRC" until April, and then change the location code for our materials to "POREDS". Betty also wanted to know what wording should appear on WATCAT, for items which are stored on magnetic tape. UW-EDS agreed on "Contact UW-EDS in the Dana Porter Library for tape loading information". 9. ICPSR - S. Moskal reports that the consortium membership is on hold for now. Next Meeting: Jan. 18, 1995, 1:30 pm, LIB 428
