Davis Renovation Planning Team

Updates

The following email was sent on 26Feb to all library staff by Mark Haslett, UW Librarian:

As you know, renovations to the Davis Library are scheduled to take place this summer with a completion target of September '04. The Davis Centre Library Renovations Planning Team (see http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/staff/infocommons/
renomandate.html
) is nearing finalization of the necessary plans.

In order to complete these renovations on time and within budget, the Davis Library will be closed to the public for the spring term (i.e. approximately May to August). Davis staff will, however, be able to work in the building for most of the construction period.

We will do all we can to minimize disruption to our students, faculty, and to Davis Library staff. The Library intends to provide access to information resources as well as reference and user services during the construction period. How we do this has yet to be finalized. Members of the Renovations Planning Team have prepared tentative proposals and will work with staff and managers over the coming weeks to develop detailed plans.

The next six months will be busy and challenging for us all. We will update Library staff as decisions are made. A communications plan will be prepared to ensure that the university community is aware of the closure and kept informed about adjustments to services.  The Planning Team is also preparing a website that will include public announcements, an FAQ, plans, etc.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Renovations Planning Team (Eric Boyd, Anne Fullerton, Ted Harms, Sharon Lamont, and Carl Nagel) for their hard work, persistence, and initiative.

The renovations to Davis will provide an attractive and functional environment for students, faculty and staff. The effort will be worth it!
