The following is a summary of University of Waterloo (UW) Library information resources and services in support of the graduate diploma in Cognitive Science, prepared by Christine Jewell, Liaison Librarian for Philosophy, Tim Ireland, Liaison Librarian for Psychology, and Leeanne Romane, Liaison Librarian for Computer Science.
Detailed information about Library resources and services in general is provided in the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies Library Resources for Philosophy Report (2009).
Library materials that support Cognitive Science are selected by the Liaison Librarians for Philosophy, Psychology, and Computer Science, in consultation with the respective Faculty Library Representatives.
The UW Library collection includes approximately 86 current print journals in subject areas of possible interest to Cognitive Science and an extensive list of current subscriptions to electronic journals of interest to Cognitive Science, including all 36 ejournal titles listed on MIT CogNet. The collection also includes approximately 54,000 monographs in subject areas of interest to Cognitive Science.
The UW Library, along with the libraries of the University of Guelph (UG) and Wilfrid Laurier University (WLU), is a member of the Tri-University Group of Libraries (TUG) consortium. Collections from the University of Guelph and Wilfrid Laurier University enhance the depth and breadth of local materials available in subject areas of interest to Cognitive Science.
The following are some of the electronic resources of interest to Cognitive Science:
The Liaison Librarians for Philosophy, Psychology, and Computer Science are available for consultation with individuals or small groups of students. They may be contacted directly in person, by phone, and by e-mail if a personal visit to the Library is not convenient.
The Liaison Librarians are also available to work with faculty to develop course integrated library instruction in the form of lectures, hands-on instruction.
We believe that a strong level of support for the graduate diploma in Cognitive Science has been provided by the Library, both in information resources and services
We would be pleased to discuss the Library's holdings and services with the appraisers at the time of a campus visit.
