Purpose: To provide the primary forum for discussion and decision making regarding information resources development and management.
In its broadest sense, information resource management seeks to relate available resources as closely as possible to the teaching, learning and research needs of the UW community, making the wisest use of the acquisitions budget and other resources to serve our clients. In this context, the Committee will work to keep selectors and appropriate decision making bodies informed about developments in resources and resource access, and opportunities for cooperative action, both at a TUG and at a broader level. The management of collections projects, such as serials cancellation, collections evaluation, and collections policy revision, will be discussed with selectors, and other staff as appropriate, and undertaken as determined by priority and circumstances.
IRMC plans and coordinates activities designed to support librarians in ensuring that:
- course and program changes are reflected in collections management practices
- strategies and priorities are developed for acquiring or accessing electronic and non-electronic resources
- the Library offers an optimal mix of information resources with available funding
- collections evaluation projects are planned and carried out
- collections policies and approval dealer profiles are periodically reviewed
- collections maintenance, conservation and preservation issues are addressed
