- Minutes of Previous Meeting (March 21, 2000)
Accepted as amended
- Notices about New Indexes
Some librarians have expressed concern about new electronic indexes being
added to the list without advance notice. It was proposed that, when a new
database was added to the list, the list maintainer (currently Doug Morton)
would send out a general message about the database, naming the selector who
purchased it (if applicable) as the resource person. It would then be up to
the selector to arrange and announce any necessary training sessions. Doug
Morton will send out an announcement to this effect and discuss it at the
next ISR meeting.
- Ask us/Tell Us / ASKLIB Concerns
At a recent ISR meeting concern had been expressed about the new Ask Us/Tell
Us on the new Uwelib. The task group comprising Marina Wan, Christine Jewell,
Judy McTaggart, Anne Fullerton, and Wish Leonard reported that:
- the Ask us/Tell us button and functions be available to the world
- the "Distance Education" part of the service would be listed as "for
UW people" and ask for name and ID number. "ASKLIB" is restricted
to the UW domain.
- the "ASKLIB" and "Other" queries are filtered before forwarding to someone
for a response; inappropriate questions will be filtered out.
The group is sending out a more complete report.
- Upcoming Topic
Next meeting will be facilitated by Susan Moskal in Davis conference room,
concerning the handling of multimedia databases. An agenda will not be issued.
- Discussion about ISR/Systems Relationship
The draft document was further revised. The current plan is to give a "heads
up" at the next ISR meeting (Apr. 7) outlining the process we've been through
and how much we've learned, pointing out that there are things for both groups
to move forward on. We will review the next draft at the April 11 ISMC meeting
after which the document will be distributed to ISR before discussion at the
Apr. 21 meeting.
