Regrets: Mary Stanley
The minutes of the November 14 meeting were accepted with changes.
The Committee reviewed the questionnaire distributed at the previous meeting by Mary Stanley. Jackie will make the changes suggested by the group.
ISMC members will distribute the questionnaire by hand to those who work on the information desks by December 11, with a request to return them to Val or Rose by December 15. To address the issue of confidentiality, the form will include an optional signature line. ISMC members, Val and Rose will have extra copies if needed. It was suggested that an electronic reminder be sent out before the return deadline. The Committee will look at how to compile the responses at its meeting on December 19.
Susan R. said that a Web page will be created showing which services are available to co-op students who are on work term. However, these services need to be defined. Wish distributed a list of services the Library currently offers to co-op students. Marlene described some of the issues associated with providing ILL to co-op students while they are on workterm. Issues included additional costs associated with mailing items to students on workterms as well as timeline considerations due to fixed loan periods assigned by our lending institutions. Of particular concern is the possibility that co-op students are submitting ILL requests for their employers. Marlene confirmed that co-op students cannot be identified on the request form. No distinction is made among "registered" students. Co-op Education & Career Services views the status of co-op students on work term as being the same as any other UW student. The Committee acknowledged that it is difficult to monitor co-op students any more effectively than when they are not on work term.
ISMC made the following recommendations:
The next meeting is on November 28 at Davis.
