  1. Minutes of Previous Meeting
  2. The minutes of the March 27, 2001 meeting were approved with minor changes; Rose will make the changes and send the minutes to Library staff.

  3. Information Literacy
  4. ISMC began planning a meeting with all liaison librarians, the purpose of which is as follows:

Susan R. reviewed the last four ISMC meetings, which focussed on information literacy. The Committee suggested that the following topics be discussed when meeting with the librarians:

    1. the relationship between information literacy and bibliographic instruction: What does the term information literacy mean? Is there a difference between it and bibliographic instruction? Does information literacy define what the Library is doing now? Doug and Margaret will each analyze one of their courses to see what is, and what is not being covered by the ACRL standards. Shabiran will be asked to do this also.
    2. ACRL standards and background information: The librarians will be asked to read the standards, etc. in preparation for their meeting with ISMC. Susan R. will ask Christine Jewell what OCULA is doing about an ACRL workshop.

Susan R. will prepare an invitation to all liaison librarians (and possibly others) to meet with ISMC. She will outline the purpose of the meeting, and make reference to the ACRL standards and other background reading. Possible dates for this meeting are April 20, or May; LT3 will be the location. ISMC members are invited to attend. It would be useful to record the questions raised. The Committee will meet before the session with librarians is held.

ISMC talked about some of the questions, which remain unanswered, such as: Who will get information literacy off the ground ? Will the Library Instruction Committee become a co-ordinating body to do this? Or does a task force need to be formed? The Committee discussed the need to prepare a position paper in order to make top administrators aware of information literacy.
