The goals and objectives of the University of Waterloo Library include "To provide and administer services to assist Library users to discover and make use of information pertinent to their needs, whether this information is available inside or outside the Library." Information services contribute to supporting this objective.
Information services include reference services, instructional programs and materials, consultation services, and access to, organization of, and delivery of electronic information resources and services. Information services are offered through Information Services and Resources and other Library departments.
Purpose:
The Committee will provide the primary forum for discussion and decision making on substantive issues associated with information services. The Committee will concern itself with matters such as:The committee will not participate in the management of day-to-day activities. As required, the Committee will establish sub-groups to address particular issues.
The scope of the Committee, and its relationship to other committees, will become clearer after a year’s experience. At that time a review of these terms of reference will be undertaken, with a view to defining more precisely what kinds of issues are sufficiently complex and far-reaching to need the Committee’s attention and what matters can best be dealt with administratively or in more specifically focused groups.
MembershipTerm of Office: With the exception of the Chair, membership will rotate every two years (we’ll need to modify this for the first two year period so that there is continuity into the 3rd year).
* As one of its first matters for consideration, ISMC will develop a structure or plan and then transfer responsibility for implementing and monitoring the training programme to a sub-committee.
