In collaboration with IST, and as part of a pilot project to test network authentication, network ports will be installed in the Library to provide students, and others, with access to the internet through their own lap-tops. A sub-group of the Information Services Management Committee (ISMC) will work with Carl Nagel to consider the following questions:
How many ports are initially desirable?
Where should the ports be located?
What services should be available through the ports?
Who should have access to the ports?
The Group will prepare a report with recommendations and cost estimates for discussion within ISMC and for Mark Haslett's consideration. When considering the four questions, the Group may identify other questions, or issues, which need to be addressed either before the connections are installed or in the longer term, e.g. as we move to a wireless environment. Such additional questions or issues should be included in the report.
Doug Morton, Susan Moskal, Carl Nagel, Wish Leonard, Jackie Stapleton (facilitator)
The Committee will aim to have its report ready for discussion at the October 17 ISMC meeting.
