  1. Dave Bean – Blog Talk

Regular Agenda

  1. Approval of Minutes

    The minutes were approved

  2. Business Arising

    1. WATCARDS – The library was given the go ahead for adding money to Watcards. Finding space at the Circulation Desk for cash registers is now on the agenda. The same goes for the Map Library and the Architecture Library. Carol Stephenson raised the question of the cost involved in implementing this, since Optometry may be interested as well. Annette Dandyk will be contacted to ask further questions.

    2. IBM hardware. The IBM systems should be delivered in the next couple of weeks for installation in the library.

    3. Doug Morton noted that it was possible to have the SFX button appear for CISTI source articles for journals for which we subscribe. This will be implemented soon.

  3. Additional Agenda

Anne Fullerton noted that there is an opportunity to apply for funding from the Engineering Department. She suggested that maybe an application could be made to renovate the Great Hall in the Davis Centre.

  4. Course Reserves – Carol Stephenson

The question was raised if the Library should house a copy of each course textbook. The pros and cons of providing textbooks for students was discussed. It was suggested that we should obtain reserves statistics for existing textbooks. Also suggested was that we obtain a list of current textbooks from the Bookstore. This would give the selectors a chance to see how much room is needed to house these as well as the total cost in obtaining them. Jennifer Haas noted that at the University of Texas they have implemented a program where alumni are quite willing to donate money for textbooks. They also found that textbooks did not take up as much space as initially thought. Optometry gets new lists from Administration Office each term, and then purchase according to that list. It will be looked into who to get a list from for all of the Davis courses.

Anne Fullerton – Anne Fullerton mentioned an article she read in the “Iron Warrior” regarding applying for funding for various projects at the university. She suggested that the Library possibly apply for funding for extra chairs, or even to renovate the great hall in the Davis Centre as an eating area. November 3, 2005 is the deadline to apply.

  5. Review & Discussion of Davis Info Desk Stats – Dan Sich

This has been postponed due to Dan Sich absence.

  6. Around the Table

Carol Stephenson – she had contacted Alex McCulloch to see how many of her Health Studies courses would be affected when ace link went down. Reserves does not contact Faculty.

Anne Fullerton went to a Science faculty committee meeting. The highlights were the Web Subject guide. Sandra Keys and Anne Fullerton will be working on this. Anne Fullerton is soliciting ideas for this web site. Science enrolment is down this year which has resulted in a $2.5 million shortfall for this program.
