  1. Approval of the Minutes - Minutes from December 14, 2010 were approved

  2. Business Arising from the Minutes
    1. Stats reports (Jennifer) -Deferred until the next meeting
    2. ISR Training Pilot – (Kathy M.)
The Training Pilot is working well. Both co-op students have completed their Porter Core Training. The Subject Specific Training Module 1 is done. They have been finding the Components worked well. They both went on their Campus Tour, did the Basic Reference etc., all went well.

  3. Call for Additional Agenda Items
    1. PRIMO renewal – there was discussion on the problems encountered with this. Jennifer will follow up on this.

  4. PRIMO Central & Sitemap (Jennifer)
Primo Central is a large index of scholarly material. Alan Bell had been looking into this before he left. Jennifer quoted from "American Library Magazine" the explanation on this.
Discussion on this product followed. The idea is to get feedback to help with training etc.
If we went with PRIMO Central we would have a single starting point. This would be the advantage of us moving in this direction. Unified indexes let you search from one index, which is much faster.
EXLIBRUS has given us free trial of PRIMO Central until September 2011. By this time two things have to be clear to us: a) Do our users find this useful? B) How does this affect our workload?
    PRIMO Central benefits -
    1. Peer review journal option
    2. Have implementation options – option to boost our local resources (what UW has)
How do our users/staff relate and benefit from this? We want to look at user needs during this trial. There are a number of views (Interfaces) for students to use.
    1. Single search box is one option
    2. Tab series
There is no limit as to what we try. PRIMO Central knows what subscriptions UW has and all of our access. It can also search what we don't subscribe to. Our users can check on all the information.
A study will be done to make the decision if we are going to subscribe to this.
Staff is encouraged to look at the content coverage, to see if it meets all our needs. How will this benefit – librarians, systems, cataloguers as well as ILL. Will this increase anyone's workload? Cost is also a concern. The tentative date for UW to start this trial is early February, with staff training for it in late February.
Any of these products do not have to involve all of TUG. Each university can go their own route.
Anne Fullerton will set up Ref Share so that any interesting literature found on the subject can be shared with everyone.
It is important to have staffs input regarding this. This has to make sense to all for it to be of benefit. Any questions or concerns are to be forwarded to Jennifer.
Primo Sitemap is a file that contains URLs and Metadata. Search engines can find information by what we have sited, the contents of our catalogue.
The concern is who will be involved in the maintenance of this site map.
Mark will take this concern to the next TUG meeting at the end of February for discussion.
Jennifer is on the OCUL Committee that is working on this project. Any feedback can be sent to Jennifer.

  5. Overview of Eduroam (Paul)
Starting March 1st, UW will start to phase out wireless. Security is the reason for the switch. With Eduroam the Network is protected. It is however not straight forward to use. U of G has it, but WLU does not. This is a worldwide network. A person can go to any University Library in the world and use the network signing in with their own user name, as long as that University subscribes to Eduroam.

  6. Update of SharePoint upgrades (Martha)
Martha demonstrated the new SharePoint upgrade. It is not very user friendly.

  7. Button Campaign (Jennifer)
Outreach would like to know if selectors want to take "give a ways" in the form of Library Buttons when they give class instructions etc. If anyone is interested, please let Jennifer or Nancy Collins know. Each library location has its own button, they are available only at the location it is meant for. To date 10,000 buttons have been picked up.

  8. Around the Table
    1. Anne – Chemical Engineering International Grad Students have been seeking help with some of the Library's resources. Send them to Anne for help.
Anne will be away Monday, January 17th and Tuesday, January 18th.
    2. Jonathan – LibQuest reports, Jonathan will see if anyone is interested in getting information from Cognos.
Jonathan is collecting passwords, and contact information for vendors as well as account numbers, and URLs. Debbie Tytko looks after these now, Jonathan will be looking after this when she leaves.
    3. Laura – A health program is being introduced in the Physics faculty. Laura will be helping the professor with what the Library has in its collection. The faculty is also looking at agreements with hospitals in the area to be able to use their library resources.
    4. Kathy S. – Leeanne and Kathy have initiated a trial for Academic Search Complete. Details to come in an e-mail.
    5. Angela – The new hire as director for Pharmacy has declined the position, and a replacement has been appointed to start Monday.
All contract positions at Pharmacy (except Angela's) have been granted full time status.
Presently 3 classes are being taught in the Pharmacy Building.
    6. Martha – Martha has had Library tour requests from 3 PhD students.
    7. Connie – Reminded people to keep Tuesday January 25th open for a Davis Library Wide Pot Luck Lunch in honour of Laura and Lars upcoming marriage.
    8. Jennifer – Performance appraisals are coming up. Jennifer will book individual appointments, and notify us. Everyone was encouraged to think of the past years projects as well as this years goals.
