- LINC Update – Leeanne (chair of LINC)
Leeanne gave us an update on LINC –
One year ago LINC went to a lesson plan. The Committee decided it wanted to formalize the lessons. Instructors can take lesson plan details, but customize them to their own needs.
There is an outline to give people a starting point. The aim is for the instructors to be more involved and interactive.
LINC Website & Toolkit – This is a place where instructors can easily get to and find what they need.
Preparation Tab – this is useful to prepare for your session. It also has a instruction checklist.
Calendar – this lists classes, assignments, teachers, as well as teaching assistants.
Teaching Resources – this is a list of Information Literacy sources.
Teaching Spaces – this is a list of various rooms and labs available for teaching.
Final Steps – this is a data collection area, assessment toolkit.
Rebecca filled us in on the Assessment Toolkit.
The assessment is a necessary part of library instruction. It measures quality and effectiveness of the workshops and shows where the improvement is needed.
Librarians have to account for their “worth” to the University, Community, as well as the Students.
Rebecca explained methods how better to use the workshops to teach students.
LINC meets every two weeks. The length of the workshops that used to be 1 hour, are now 1.5 hours in length, and the 1.5 hour ones are now 2 hours. This will give librarians more time to teach and to do the assessment. LINC is also currently looking at online survey tools.
Questions were answered, a discussion followed.
Leeanne encouraged any feedback, questions etc.
- New Educational Technologies Screencast by Mark Morton – Tim
Tim showed and explained a Screencast.
- Open Text Software used for the G20 Net Project – Reviews/comments/feedback – Annie
Post Mortem from Libraries point of view. Tim Jenkins asked for a Usability Report.
There were some issues with the program, such as the colour contrast was wrong, which made it hard to read.
Also the inability to change the icon, and to edit our own post or to delete it.
Annie asked for people to send e-mails regarding the G20 so she could wrap things up in this regard.
- Systems Brainstorm - Annie
Discussion regarding the brainstorming session a couple of weeks ago on what Bill provided for the ISR Department, and how we will deal with things with his vacant position. What things have been put on the back burner, and what new things need to be done now that Adrian is left to do the work?
List of concerns was shown – a discussion followed.
