  1. Approval of the Minutes of February 24, 2012
Corrections /additions will be handled by email. Send to Tim.

  2. Weeding Update: Christine, Ramsay, & Aziz

Christine noted the weeding project is progressing. An inspection truck is now available for items that overlap and need to be reviewed by another librarian. Books will stay on this truck for one week – rotating each Friday. Items that do not need further consultation can be put directly on the “withdrawals” truck. Cataloguing will use the collections rules to catch duplicates and superseded material.

Ramsay is available to provide assistance. He can pull items for any reports that are run. His calendar with availability is posted by Christine’s office. Detailed procedures have also been posted in the same area.

Aziz can run the following reports: Circulation usage, Circulation usage with specific criteria, and book series needing to be discarded.

  3. UW Co-op Placement – Changes for Porter ISR: Annie

A proposal will be made to hire a joint ISR/Circulation co-op position for each term next year. The composition of the position will be 50% tech support offered from the Circulation Desk; 25% assistance with the weeding project; and, 25% assistance with content inventory (web pages). Supervision will rotate between Sarah Martin and Marian Davies. This will be a pilot for 1 year.

Concern was expressed about the following tech support issues:

    • How to handle tech support during those times when Ramsay is in the stacks helping with the weeding project and also on call for tech support?
    • The lack of tech support between noon and 1 p.m. can be problematic for staff at the information desk

It was suggested that Ramsay take the back-up walkie-talkie to the stacks during those times when he is on call. The back-up is available until noon.
Possibly the lunch hours of the ISR and Systems co-op students could be staggered. Further discussion with the appropriate supervisors needs to be pursued.

  4. Around the Table:
There were no items to report.

Next Meeting: The next meeting will be a joint ISR meeting, March 23, 2012.
