Judy asked for feedback on how the alternative desk schedule worked last fall. The 16-week schedule consisted of:
o 1st 6 weeks having the desk heavily staffed by cataloguing staff.
o 2nd 6 weeks having the desk staffed with more ISR staff, and cataloguing staff with more back-up shifts.
o final 4 weeks – single staffing.
All agreed that the alternative scheduling allowed ISR staff to focus on library instruction, so we will continue with the alternative schedule this fall term. It was also noted that this allowed for a greater commitment to providing alternative formats in the Adaptive Technology Centre.
Pilot for Desk Back-up for 11 to noon in Winter 2010: Judy reported that when the pilot was launched in Winter 2010 there were 39 back-up questions for 11-noon in Winter 2010, compared with only 39 questions for the total back-up hours each for 2011 and 2012. Given the drop in back-up questions in winter, this service might need to be reviewed for next year.
Technical support: Chen would like to increase his support from 1:00 – 4:00 to 12:30 – 4:30. Action: Circulation needs to be consulted since they will be supervising the co-op student for the fall and offer the service on the off-days.
Back-up during Orientation Week: Judy noted that the Orientation week desk schedule will include back-up.
Annie reported that duplicates from Reserves will go to the librarian first for review rather than going automatically back to the stacks.
A Collection Rules Working Group will be formed to work on recommendations on implementing collection rules into our current processes. The group will be formed in the fall term.
Weeding Task Force update: Review of the superseded and duplicate titles should be completed by mid-August. Selectors are also looking at reports for other potential items, no longer of value, to be withdrawn.
