ISR Training Committee
Meeting Minutes
12 March 2008
meeting conducted via email

1. Approval of Minutes of Feb 26th, 2008

Approved.

2. Spotlights (updates)

Knovel engineering reference tool:

This spotlight is cancelled until further notice. April 15 is being reserved for an interview/presentation for the Physics/Math liaison position.  This would mean that Davis ISR woud be attending the interview and/or the presentation on this day.  The next scheduled webinar is during the lunch hour of April 29, the day of the retreat.  We do not want to offer it at this time.  We will keep this topic in mind for a future spotlight.

CSA Standards:

This has been rescheduled for prior to the April 11 ISR meeting

Lexis Nexus:

Sandra’s spotlight is scheduled for March 14 before Porter ISR meeting.

3. Training Retreat

Hands on sessions:

CINAHL: no update

2nd session: John received only one response to his email soliciting suggestions from ISR staff.

How to read / use an e-book. E.g. show a users how or do it ourselves.  Provide a series of exercises on how to search; browse; bookmark; make notes in; download; print; send to RefWorks etc. Springer books or NetLibrary might be the demonstration ebook. Referex, Knovel more Davis specific but it would be helpful if the presenter can point out any differences

Alison thought the suggestion from Anne about e-books was a good one.

Lunch:

no update

Webpage:

Alison has begun work on the Retreat webpage at http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/staff/isrtrain/sessions/retreats/2008/retreat2008.html

Speaker:

Greg Sennema has confirmed for April 29th .

Date, time, location:

Retreat is being held Tuesday April 29. The FLEX Lab is booked for the morning.

Roundtable:

Margaret has viewed the video and she is thinking of how to structure the session.

4. Committee minute webpage:

Johnathan has created a quick help page on posting and naming minutes for the website.  We will discuss this at the next meeting.
