1) Approval of minutes from October 9, 2008

The minutes were approved. Just a reminder to add "Draft" to the minutes before they are approved.

2) Additional agenda

3) Business arising

Survey was to be sent out to the ISR Desk Staff to give examples as to the types of questions they are not able to answer.

4) Update on Training New Staff Members

Pauline Dewan

Pauline Dewan's training is progressing nicely, almost done; she is shadowing this week.

Agnes Kayko

Carol Steele will co-ordinate her training, which is to start November 3rd, 2008.

Kathy Szigeti

Kathy starts December 1st. We will consider her training schedule in early or mid-November. - no updates so far.

5) Survey - Information Desk Staff

Judy gave out survey outcomes. The number of responses could have been better. The question was raised whether we would have had better response had it been done electronically? We had a discussion as to where the greatest interest was. The following suggestions were reviewed.

Electronic Data Service (data overview)
Update on Special Collections - new collections
Social theory database (Soc - Tim Ireland)
E-HRAF (priority 2)
CRKN 3-book packages (currently being organized)
Update on Circulation procedures and policies (Martha to co-ordinate)
Differences between CPI, CBCK & Canadian Research Index (to think about)
Systematic review of packages to search for e-books (interesting, but decide after the CRKN spotlight)
Turnkey Desk (next term)
Graphic Services/Copy Center (next term)

Other suggestions:

Liason activities by Librarians - what are others doing to embed themselves within their faculties (this suggestion will be passed to LAUW)
Use/lack of use of blogs (possibility for Retreat)
PRIMO, especially (1) My Account features (2) how metadata searching will be incorporated (scheduled for November 7th)
A general overview of strategies for creating a personal "bookshelf" of resources - i.e. which is the best approach: RefWorks, Primo, e-book platformo accounts, or some combination? (possibility)
Advanced RefWorks session (covering Write n Cite III, attaching files, and RefShare (by RefWorks trainer) - (consider for next term)
Perimeter Institute Visit (a possiblity)
Campus Planning Committee - in reference to the changes that are being made on campus (forward to Sharon Lamont)

Topics for Roundtable discussion:

Print vs. Electronic (revisit later)
Nancy Collins - poster session - topic: reaching students in the culture of distraction. Any aspect of Web 2.) tagging and how it can be useful to Library patrons (revisit later)

Primo - the tentative date is November 7th. Alison will send out e-mails later to confirm.
