Meeting Minutes
June 11, 2009
2:00-3:00 p.m.
Davis
Present: Alison Hitchens, Connie Kovac (recorder), Martha Lauzon, Kathy MacDonald, Judy McTaggart, Margaret Yuen (chair)
1) Approval of Minutes of May 14, 2009 - Minutes were approved with corrections still to be made that were sent via e-mail.
2) Additional Agenda - none
3) Business Arising - Margaret has informed Susan Routliffe regarding requests from some staff members who would like the Retreat to be offered Library wide.
4) Web 2.0 - further training - Alison - Alison mentioned at the last Managers Meeting that if some managers wanted to participate in slightly revising the web site, they were welcome to do so. Mark will mention this at the upcoming Town Hall Meeting.
5) Cross Training - Cataloguers want to be trained for both Porter and Davis Reference Desks. This is because they seem to get queries for both Library disciplines. It was expressed that people who do Chat Reference should also be cross trained. All Librarians however do not need to know answers to queries for both Porter and Davis Libraries.
Margaret will contact the Chat group to see if they are aware that there is information people from both libraries need to know.
6) Training New Staff - Kristen Jensen is scheduled on the Porter Reference Desk for next week. She will be on the desk without back up.
Larisa Smyk is close to being done her training and will soon be shadowing and starting her desk duties shortly after that.
Cornelia Tiba's training is almost done. Her shadowing is underway. She will be solo on the Davis Desk come September.
It was suggested that "Conference Proceedings" should be added to the training schedule especially for Davis.
Evaluation - Agnes was pleased with the training she received, especially her training notes. She has referred to them numerous times to answer questions at the desk. Smart Searching Techniques was also very beneficial.
7) Spotlights/Training Session
Blended Learning - about 15 people attended the Blended Learning Session. It was well received.
Graphics - the Graphics Spotlight will be held June 26th, 2009 in Davis.
8) EI Institute - Kathy MacDonald - Searching 2.1 session - the results of the survey was: 11 yes ; 3 no; 1 yes&no
8 - very helpful; 7 - helpful;
7 comments - various ones - mostly positive comments.
9) Membership - Zsuzsanna Lancsak will be our new member starting in August 2009.
10) Tasks to do: updating web sites etc.
updating web sites - some housecleaning in this area is needed.
listing of training packages from liaison librarians - this is still being worked on.
suggestions for topics for the Fall survey - survey should get out early on what types of topics people would like to see. Kathy MacDonald will take the lead in compiling suggestions.
Possibilities - GIS related spotlight
- Conference Proceedings - finding
Old documents decision on which ones to leave on the web is in progress.
Training manuals and guides - collections / searching / working with others / instructions - Judy McTaggart and Carol Steele are working on this.
11) Next Meeting - to be scheduled for August.
All meetings starting in the fall will be held on Thursdays at 1:30.
