1) Approval of minutes September 10, 2009
The minutes were approved.
2) Additional agenda
None.
3) Business arising
- Turnitin speaker (Kathy): Kathy talked to Mary Powers who suggested Pia Marks or Jane Holbrook as a speaker, on how to use it effectively. Judy mentioned that Kathy S. had indicated on her survey that she had met someone who would be willing to give a talk.
- UW-ACE speaker (Kathy): this would likely be Jan Whillwerth from IST.
- Cross-training for chat - Doug’s session (Kathy): this will be refresher on the technology. Actual cross-training will be added back to our to-do list. Kathy will pursue this issue.
- Question pool – input from ISR meetings (Kathy, Carol): Kathy raised it at a Davis meeting, and response was generally positive. Carol hasn’t had a chance to raise it at Porter yet.
- Do consultation and referral forms look the same on LibQuest (Martha): many liaison librarians are not using the consultation forms, so it is not necessarily practical to pull in “interesting questions” that way.
4) Training new staff members – feedback on training
Larisa and Kristen have already filled out the evaluation form. Kathy will approach Cornelia officially about filling out the new version on SharePoint.
5) Spotlights/Training Sessions
- Cross-training for Porter/Davis Chat reference: discussed in “business arising”.
- ARES – Sept. 18th – evaluation results: there were approximately 25 attendees.12 filled out forms. 11 said it was what they were hoping for, 1 not (but said it was helpful). 7 found it very helpful, 5 helpful. Many people said it was good to get an update.
- Theatre in Video – October 30th 9:30 am: this will at Davis.
4) Staff survey – summary
18 surveys out of 34 were returned. Many people are willing to give sessions. The following items were highlighted as being worth pursuing:
- Statistics Canada and TDR – aim for November
- Odesi
- Government information
- GIS – possibly incorporating Google Maps
- New search tools, Browser tools, and Podcasts & video sharing could be included in future Web 2.0 modules. Zsuzsanna will pursue this.
- Camtasia – Judy will approach Tim about giving this session in early December. Is this the same thing as screen-casting?
- Turnitin – aim for November. Martha will approach Jane Holbrook about giving this session.
- UW-ACE update and troubleshooting.
- Accessibility & the library could be combined with Web accessibility and Special needs patrons in one longer session. Kathy will follow up with Janet and Annie about timing and the length of the session.
7) Tasks to do
Assigned.
8) Next meeting: October 22nd, DC 1568
9) Around the table
Kathy will contact Charles Woods about getting Alison off the isr-train alias.
Zsuzsanna reported that only 3 people are doing the Web 2.0 training.
Kathy will suggest Alison send managers an email inviting them to the FRBR session.
