Meeting Minutes

1) Approval of the minutes of February 17, 2011

The minutes were approved.

4.c – Training New Staff Members – Kathy has asked Jennifer and Annie if we will be getting a co-op student for fall 2011.

9. Membership – Margaret has emailed Annie and Jennifer regarding the membership of the non-ISR member of the Committee.

4) Spotlights/Training Sessions

Natural Standards Database – Carol reported that Angela Madden will presenting the session on March 11th at 9:30.
Standards & Codes – Zsuzsanna reported that Doug is willing to present a hands-on session as part of the Training Retreat.
Reaxys Database. – Kathy MacDonald reported that Kathy Szigeti would like to do the session in May. Once we have the date for the ISR Retreat finalized we can schedule Reaxys.
Web 2.0 – Part 2. Since a number of staff members who had signed up for the training in November were not able to complete the modules, Judy suggested that we might offer Part 2 again at the end of the winter term. Zsuzsanna will ask Laura if she would be able to be the contact for the modules. Part 2 can be relaunched beginning March 28th, with an announcement to be sent out on March 14th.

5) ISR Training Retreat

a. Programme:

Technology Trends – Amanda Etches-Johnson is unavailable for April 28th. Kathy will email Amanda to see if she is available on April 21st or May 6th; though Thursdays are preferable, we would be open to alternate days.
E-Books – Members of IRMC has agreed to put together a session to cover the issues on e-books. They will discuss the details at the next meeting in late March.
Standards & Codes – Doug is able to present as a hands-on session.

Other Suggestions considered:

Working together and information sharing (each member will think of how this session might work, if we were to use this topic)

RefWorks 2.0. The change over to the newer version might occur sometime in the summer, so having this session in April might be too early.
Millennials – panel of students on their use of technology

b. Date for retreat: Date will be determined when we get confirmation for the external speaker.

6) Terms of Reference

Based on the feedback from the joint ISR Joint meeting of November 12, 2010, changes were made to the draft. These included adding the following:

Co-ordinate the training of new staff at the information services delivery points. (1st item under Roles and Responsibilities)
Organize the annual Training Retreat

Margaret will email the revisions to the Committee, Jennifer and Annie.

7) Training New Staff

Ben and Colin have sent in their feedback, and we will review their comments at our next meeting.

Zsuzsanna noted that a staff member from Cataloguing would like to know what is expected of the person who is being shadowed at the desk. Zsuzsanna will ask for further clarifications, so that we can provide some explanations in the future.

Kathy reported that training for Physics will take place next week.

8) Tasks to do: updating websites etc. – deferred.
