1) Approval of minutes of October 11, 2102

The minutes were approved

2) Additional agenda

None

3) Business arising

Kathy updated the September 27th minutes & Carol posted them on the ISD website.

Judy posted the results of the 2012 staff survey on SharePoint.

Carol finished the changes to the ISD Training Committee website.

4) Training new staff members

a) Rachel McNeil replaces Laura Bredahl December 3rd, 2012

Librarian Training – Kathy started the template; she will post it and Connie will finish it.

b) Ted Harms will be on the Porter desk starting in December (he is away starting December 17).  Ted and Dave Gall, the new Library Associate, will be trained in Core Reference starting in January.

c) Campus Tours and Modules will start before Christmas break, and Core Reference and Subject Specific Training will start in January. Meeting with Library Associates and Walter to be on Monday December 19th at 9:30 – Connie will book this to be with Kathy, Zsuzsanna, Judy and Walter.

d) Campus Module – Zsuzanna will complete the Campus Awareness Module with Tech Support Students in January.

e) Judy will speak with Jamie about providing enhanced training for evening/weekend Circulation Supervisors.  Training will focus on providing basic directional service when the Info Desk is not open. 

f)  Zsuzsanna will speak to Jennifer and Annie regarding desk replacements.

g)  During the winter term Porter Librarians will not sit on the Information Desk during the day.  They will maintain their evening & weekend shifts.

h)  Shannon Gordon, the new Pharmacy Librarian, has finished her training.

5) Spotlights

a) January 11th – Mobile apps – Pascal & Nancy – convenor Susan

b) January 25th Jackie is going to do “Systematic Reviews”.

c) February 8th – Biology Images Library – Kathy M. – Jonathan is to convene

d) February 22nd (Reading Week) – no spotlight

e) March 8th Copyright – Kathy will contact Susan Routliffe before she leaves regarding this.

f) New ILL Overview-- Sam and Alex could do an overview of course reserves and new ILL.

g)  Tech Petting Zoo event – no further update.

h)  E-books update – Spotlight – Kathy will check with Jennifer and Annie

i)  New Programs Spotlight will be held sometime in March

j)  Linked Data – Kathy will contact Alison regarding this as a Spotlight.

6) Review of Patrick & Sarah’s training evaluation forms – discussion

Patrick thought it would be helpful to have more trouble shooting training with printers and photocopies etc.

Sarah suggested more specific Trellis and Primo training. She liked Health Studies and Kinesiology because Jackie’s PowerPoint assisted her in preparing for the worksheet. She found the Chemistry databases particularly challenging.  This comment initiated a discussion with the Chemistry Librarian about whether or not to teach Chemistry database use before students complete the worksheet.  This issue was resolved by adding a note to the worksheet asking the student to do a proper reference interview with the Librarian prior to completing the worksheet, thus providing the student with additional support.
