3) Business arising

Item 4a, Training progress reports: Susan noted she will be contacting the manager of the co-op program at Western and asked for comments on Walter’s progress. Kathy will send Susan the feedback she has received on his desk performance. Susan will discuss any issues at her next meeting with Walter.

Item 4b, Training templates: Judy confirmed the Cognos training session for Dave is recorded on the schedule. She will follow-up with Connie re other updates to the template.

Susan will give the campus tour module to Simon (Davis tech support student). She will report back.

4) Retreat 2013

a) Themes and sessions (Continued from previous meeting)

Discussion about the theme for this year’s retreat continued. The group agreed the “mobile library” theme would be interesting. Possible sessions might include:

Mobile devices: a hands-on session in small groups (petting zoo); inviting guests from on campus to give an update on devices students are using (e.g. Student Success Office, International Students, Accessibility Services) Action: Kathy and Jonathan will follow-up

Roving Reference: how others are using mobile devices to provide this service

In-House Panel: 20 minute presentations on topics such as ebooks, linked data, etc. Action: Susan will check what sessions are being offered at the TUG conference.

Repositories: focus on uWaterloo repositories i.e. data, media, learning objects. Action: Kathy will speak with Pascal and Kathy Szigeti.


Guest Speaker: Kathy noted there were several speakers at OLA who talked about mobile devices and their uses. Action: Kathy will follow-up.

5) Spotlights/Training Sessions

a. Upcoming Sessions:

i. Biology Images Library (Kathy) – rescheduled to March 8 – convenor, Jonathan

ii. Copyright Update: Christine Jewell has agreed to give a session. Tentative date, May 3rd. Convenor, Judy

iii. Graphic Novels in our Collection (Jane Forgay and other selectors). Tentative dates – March 22 or April 5. Convenor, Susan

Open spotlight sessions: May 17 & 31; June 14 & 28.

9. Training New Staff Members and Around the Table:

Agenda items deferred due to time constraints.
