2) Business Arising
3) Business Arising from WebOps Meeting September 21st
- Google Scholar
Bill is working with Doug Morton to use an extract to get the SFX knowledge base up to date. Until it is it is of no use either directly or through Google Scholar.
Bill is also creating some files from the ERM database that are used by Google Scholar to provide GetIt at Waterloo links.
There is also a World Cat link provided through Google Scholar. UW holdings are in the OCLC database and currently in the process of being up dated. There is some question as to whether a subscription to WorldCat is required in addition to having our records loaded in the database.
Action: Bill will continue to pursue these issue.
- Branch Library Home Pages
WebOps would like to avoid the proliferation of Templates for different branch libraries like the Map Library and Musagetes.
To meet some of their needs a "Branch libraries" link could be added to the left navigation. Similarly on the separate Chat link could be added on the "Ask a Librarian" page pointing to a Musagetes chat service. The LibWebReview group can help address these needs.
Action: LibWebReviewgroup will contact Michele and work out solutions to these problems.
4) Agenda Review
3) Terms of Reference for LibWebReview
4) Online Reference Shelf on secondary navigation on Library home page
- A request has been received to add an "Online Reference Shelf" link on the right hand navigation bar of the Library's homepage. The possibility was discussed and it was decided to check out access statistics to determine the need for this link.
Action: Bill will check the ERM statistics for use and Marina will contact Charles Woods for additional statistics.
6) Survey results (Deferred)
7) Quality Web
- Esther commented on some recent reading about web sites that we should be giving serious attention - 'more quality and less quantity', 'killer content not filler content'.
Mentioned was Jennifer Johnson's sessions on writing for the web. The Library does provide a small honorarium for speakers.
The archiving of old minutes and the deleting of very dated files was discussed. These are quality questions that should be brought to the attention of web maintainers.
Action: Esther will contact Jennifer Johnson about speaking to Library web maintainers.
Action: Esther and Marian will look into training issues for the tentative November web maintainers' session.
