  1. Minutes of Meeting, July 5, 2006
    Accepted with minor changes.

  2. Business Arising

    Item 9:
Marina asked Dan to talk to Linda Teather directly for ease and speed.

Item 7: Marina has set up an area in the wiki to discuss the terms of reference. It was asked if there were any concerns regarding confidentiality. Agreed that not for now.

Item 8: Feel free to edit the wiki area on Quick Polls.

  3. Agenda Review

Added: Items 6 and 7 (see below).

  4. Podcasting and Blogging Reports and Updates

Dan has put together a list of hardware, software , and service needs for podcasting and blogging. Thanks to Dan for providing the following information:

    - iTunes & Juice (Esther & Rachel already have Juice) by the end of the month if at all possible.
    - Directory www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/blogs or subdomain http://blogs.lib.uwaterloo.ca for blogs (or a suitable alternative).  For discussion:  What are our server constraints, and what are the database requirements for b2evolution and WordPress?
    - Someone from Systems officially ‘assigned’ to work with bloggers/podcasters – Chris Gray has been extremely helpful to date with the blog stuff.
    - Audacity, and LAME MP3 encoder.
    - Necessary workstation upgrades to handle this software.
    - ViewletBuilder (already in the works).
    - Server space (for audio files, viewlets, etc.) and FTP access.
    - Microphones and/or headphones/headsets with mics.  (We may be able to check with AV to see if they have recording facilities – not all of us can record audio in our offices.)
    - Portable digital audio recording device with mic (for recording walking tours).
    - Webcams

Possible blogging software includes WordPress and b2evolution. He noted that a stable URL for the blog is needed.

Should the blog be attached to the homepage? Consensus: yes.

Dan summarized e-mails between him and Linda Teather. The techie stuff needing to happen will take time, but Mary Stanley is hoping the project will move forward quickly. LibWebReview needs to send a message to Systems regarding who needs what, with priorities listed. If we can get the basics soon, then practice/play can take place before September. Action: Dan will write an e-mail on behalf of LibWebReview.

Action Items (before we can begin in "public" space):
    - Decide which blogging software to use (WordPress, b2evolution)
    - Decide on URL for blog (www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/blogs; blogs.lib.uwaterloo.ca). Dan will talk to Chris Gray about blog URL constraints.

It was suggested that we should be communicating and advertising our progress, success stories, etc.

We need to set up guidelines and rules. Action: Rachel will begin to draft.

LibWebReview should be the place to go if someone wants to set up a blog, etc.

LibWebReview needs to be aware of what's up on the website.

Esther noted the RBC Info Commons site - it is not a live blog.

  5. Terms of Reference

The current terms of reference were discussed. In general, they are satisfactory.

    Suggestions included:
    1. Description of Responsibilities
      1. should there be a statement referring to types of files other than webpages?
      2. Podcasting requires text script for accessibility
    2. Activities
      1. add "keep current with new technologies in web services, applications, etc."
      2. add "advise on appropriate use of..."

  6. CSS Changes

Because of vacation schedule and impact on instruction sessions in September, these changes should wait until the Winter Term.

  7. Next Meeting

Marina announced that the next meeting (August 2nd) will be very important as it will be devoted to discussing changes to the website to happen between terms for September. It was noted that we must remember the impact of changes on the instruction schedules (LINC and individual Liaison Librarians).

  8. Around the Table

Sandra (for Dan): Access will be in Ottawa Oct. 11-14, 2006. He, and maybe others, will be going.

A future agenda item was suggested: Google Analytics.
