Present: Christy Branston, Rachel Caldwell, Helena Calogeridis (recorder), Marian Davies, Esther Millar, Dan Sich, Bill Oldfield (Chair)
1. Minutes of meeting of January 17, 2007
Accepted.
2. Business Arising
4. f) Blogging/Podcasts: Esther now has iTunes installed on her computer.
4. d) RefWorks TRELLIS link: There are more coding issues before the link can be implemented.
4. m) TRELLIS Header Subgroup: Item deferred.
5. CCAE Prix d'Excellence: Rachel followed up on the action.
3. Agenda Review
Two new items were added:
13. UW Space: Library issues
14. Responding to LibWebReview email
4. Jargon Page
Sandra directed the group to the link at http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/usered/international/
library_jargon.html. The group discussed the appropriate location of this link and agreed on the right navigation bar, under Help & Instruction at http://www.lib.uwaterloo.ca/helpinstruct/index.html
Action: Esther will mount. This link is maintained by LINC, so any further suggestions and comments may be addressed to Sandra.
5. Contribute Editing
Currently, various controls are in place for editors. There were some requests from selectors to open up the editing, for example to allow the use of coloured text. The group felt that all such requests should be funnelled through LibWebReview. Esther could create styles that would be available for everyone to use as CSS enhancement. A sub-group was struck to discuss the options (colour application, etc.) to provide more flexibility. The members are Christy, Esther, Marian.
6. CCAE Prix d'Exellence
Rachel will work with a group (Christy, Rachel, Sandra) to draft a Website Goals and Implementation Plan. Broken links are a concern; Esther will run a new Linkbot report to reveal the problems related to broken links. Other group members are encouraged to send their feedback to Rachel by email.
7. Title Tags for Left Navigation Menus
Helena submitted the suggested wording and Esther demonstrated the title tags on the libtest page for all items on the left navigation bar. The group agreed to go ahead with the implementation of the tags before March 11:
Action: Esther.
8. CSS Enhancements
The group agreed to make these live in May/June 2007. Esther and Marian demonstrated the colour enhancements and other changes. Colour enhancements focused on subtle differences between headings and subheading links. Other concerns included headings: how they look online and how they print, creation of increased space between lines for easier reading, and the right navigation bar length. Esther and Marian will continue their work on this.
9. Scholar's Portal Search Box
Dan introduced the SP search engine to the group. He will clarify what databases are included in the search. Dan, Helena and Sandra will provide some instructional text for the link "What is this". The search box will go live in the summer so that we have time to test the speed and iron out the bugs.
10. Library Login - Quick User Testing
The group is considering approaching some students with a simple questionnaire. CNAC and the Office of Research Ethics might be good sources of information about conducting informal surveys/evaluations. We need to know whether a formal approval is required or whether there are any shortcuts. Action: Marian will follow up on this.
11. Updated Banner Images
The final selection of banners will be presented to the Managers group. Action: Rachel.
12. Library Homepage and UW Closures
Action: Bill and Esther will take responsibility for the webpage updating.
13. UW Space: Library issues
Bill reported to the group on the current status of UW Space. This is an institutional repository for e-theses, learning objects, library staff presentations/articles, and Powerpoint presentations. In the future, items may be added by individuals when their space is set up.
14. Responding to LibWebReview email
It was agreed that Bill should respond on behalf of the group.
15. Around the Table
Firefox is now being added to the new image on the public machines. When this is completed we should advertise to library users that they can download Firefox to their machines.
