Library Web Review Group

Notes for March 14, 2007 Meeting

LIB 428 , 1:30 - 3:00 pm

Present: Christy Branston, Rachel Caldwell , Helena Calogeridis, Marian Davies, Sandra Keys (recorder), Esther Millar, Bill Oldfield (Chair), Dan Sich

  1. Minutes of Meeting, February 14, 2007

    Accepted as written.

  2. Business Arising

    Item 4:
Rachel submitted the application for the CCAE Prix D'Excellence.

Item 2 (Business Arising): Marian reported that she is working on collecting information and requirements needed to conduct an on-going assessment of the Library's website through a student/faculty/staff survey.

  3. Agenda Review

    Add LibX as no. 6.
    Add Ethics as no. 7.
Move Around the Table to no. 8.

  4. Journal Searching on Homepage(Dan)

Dan reported, in response to a message received, that more text cannot be added because of space restrictions (horizontally). All the subjects in the drop downlist are from the current list. The "show" button is necessary to display the top page (all subjects). Deadline for the "about" text is end of March ( Action: Helena and Sandra with Dan). It was asked if a usability study should be conducted - we probably have enough time. It was also noted that we need to send to staff for their feedback before making it live (Action: Dan will do a bit more work on aesthetics before sending to staff).

  5. Updating the Public Workstation Web Pages(Christy & Marian)

These pages are available on the public workstations from the question mark (?). The new/edited pages should be ready for May 1, 2007. LibWebReview will be the contact for these pages (Action: Marian will change the SSI). The following suggestions were made:
    • clarify what the Printer Programme is and how to restart it (Action: Marian)
    • add a page for Nexus ftp (i.e., how to access Nexus folders)
    • put a link to copyright information in the right menu
      • it was asked if there could be a copyright logo which would point to this page made available which people could insert on their pages as desired
  6. LibX Update (Bill & Dan)

The original version of UW LibX installed in Firefox 2.0.0.1 causes problems with editing large MediaWiki files.  Updating to the latest version of UW LibX (which has a work-around) and/or Firefox 2.0.0.2 will rectify the problem.  Public workstations should include these updates.  Action:  Bill.

An Adobe plug-in is needed for meebome widgets. Action: Marian will doublecheck if this is installed.

  7. Ethics (Marian)

We should work toward the April 19, 2007 deadline for submitting a proposal to Ethics for ongoing surveying of users.

  8. Around the Table

Christy mentioned that she had been talking to Jesse Rodgers. Another campus-wide usability study may be undertaken.

Rachel reported that the new banner images have been approved. It was decided that they could go live right away and not to wait until the end of term.

Marian enquired into a response to Anne Fullerton's message regarding one of the new e-journal titles pages. Action: Bill will respond to Anne.
